Leadership, dialogue, and responsibility: Siena reflects on the value of kindness in public life

A well-attended event and a rich discussion of ideas accompanied the presentation at the Accademia dei Rozzi in Siena of the book La rivoluzione gentile – Verso la leadership della gentilezza by Ugo Cappellacci, an initiative promoted by the VisMederi Foundation as part of its cultural dialogue program and its commitment to exploring key themes in contemporary society.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on an increasingly central topic in public debate: the role of leadership in a complex society characterized by rapid change, new social vulnerabilities, and a growing demand for listening from citizens.

Based on the content of the book, the discussion explored the meaning of kindness not merely as an individual attitude, but as a method of relationship and a tool of governance. This approach highlights the importance of empathy, responsibility, and the ability to build trust—elements increasingly necessary to address the challenges faced by institutions, organizations, and communities.

During the event, Ugo Cappellacci, former President of the Sardinia Region and current President of the Committee on Social Affairs and Health of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, shared reflections from his institutional experience, emphasizing how the quality of human relationships is a fundamental component in making public action more effective and strengthening the relationship between institutions and citizens.

The author was joined in discussion by Sara Pugliese, Chief Executive Officer of VisMederi Holding, Veronica Cannucci, General Director of the VisMederi Foundation, and journalist Andrea Bianchi Sugarelli. The dialogue broadened the reflection to include communication, civic participation, and the need to develop leadership models capable of combining competence, listening, and vision.

The strong public participation confirmed the interest in topics that concern not only politics and institutions, but more broadly the way people build relationships, address conflicts, and imagine the future of their communities.

Through initiatives such as this, the VisMederi Foundation continues to promote open and interdisciplinary spaces for discussion, convinced that the dissemination of culture, dialogue between different experiences, and the sharing of ideas are essential tools for interpreting the present and contributing to a more aware and participatory society.
